I recently read Howard Shifke’s, Parkinson’s Recipe for Recovery. Shifke, as you may know, is an American lawyer who fully recovered from Parkinson’s in 2010 after being diagnosed in 2009.
After his diagnosis, he immediately went to work and developed a protocol largely based on his understanding of Qigong and his experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was also based on faith. Faith, that he could and would recover.
His daily protocol included medical Qigong, chanting, prayer, meditation and a vegetarian diet.
Shifke also went on a journey of self-discovery. He realized that he had grown up not feeling good about himself, living in fear and anger and non-deserving. He learned that he had to change his thoughts and his emotional response to the situations he faced. He also knew that although his body didn’t respond initially, as long as he continued to do the right thing, it eventually would.
