My Journey with Parkinson’s … A Natural Approach: Post 218 … I have retired and I have moved!

loonAs of May 1, I have retired from teaching martial arts and I have left Keswick, Ontario and moved six hours away to Ice Lake on Manitoulin Island.

I didn’t really want to retire, but circumstances dictated otherwise [namely, this neurological condition I’m experiencing]. The stress of running a business was working against me and it was becoming more difficult for me to teach, particularly due to the challenges associated with loss of balance. At the same time, I came to the conclusion that in order to overcome this condition I needed to “get away from the world.” And so, I retired and moved to Ice Lake [a lake, not a town] in order to enjoy some peace and quiet at my own private ashram.

Living on the lake, I plan to focus on four things: recovering my health, writing books and blogs, learning Estonian [Mari is originally from Estonia] and working on projects around the house.

I am confident that I will recover my health living here on the island. It is very peaceful and quiet, an opportunity to really embrace spiritual consciousness. The most predominant sound is that of the birds, mostly robins, cardinals, woodpeckers, mourning doves, hawks and seagulls. We also hear squirrels and chipmunks scurrying through the forest and Canada geese flying overhead. But the most pleasing sound, which I’m listening to as I write this, is the sound of the loon [it reminds me of my favorite movie, On Golden Pond]! It is both haunting and beautiful, and if there was ever a sound to help someone recover their health, it is it!

Have an awesomely healing day!

  1. Wish you much happiness and health Fred. By the way, did you ever consider joining a like minded group on Facebook? There are many more people out there that approach this enigmatic condition of ours from an holistic perspective. If you like, I can contact you privately and give you some links to a few groups on FB….

  2. I think that is wonderful~~~I looked it up and it is gorgeous, full of nature and perfect place to heal. I did find this picture of a resort there which looks so pretty! Definitely cold – looked at that too! Wow BRRR…I am such a wimp with cold being a CA girl. I do love seasons though and snow but in Canada it’s a different cold from what I experienced in Colorado as a dry snow! Healing to you in this beautiful location!!!

  3. Wishing you a good recovery at the lake, sounds great. Enjoy your retirement, and concentrate on healing! Keep up your positivity and calmness where you are now!

  4. Wishing you all the best Fred. The new digs sounds absolutely tranquil and ideal for PwP. I just bought a home in the burbs (well, not really the burbs, it’s still in Toronto) and will be moving from my condo in downtown Toronto. It’s no Ice Lake, but like you I’m hoping the change in environment and getting away from the frenzy of urban living will help with recovery. Keep fighting a good fight and don’t forget you are an inspiration. Looking forward to hearing how your recovery adventure unfolds!
